Christmas Gifts

Practical Christmas Gifts

No matter how you celebrate the holiday season, this time of year is a popular time to take a step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is a time to focus more on our families and the things that bring us joy. It is also common to give Christmas Gifts at this time of year to celebrate our most important relationships. Christmas Gift shopping can be a bit of a challenge for many of us, particularly when shopping for someone who seems to have everything.

However, what many Canadians do not have is a comprehensive Estate Plan. In fact, some sources estimate that only 4 out of every 10 Canadian adults have a Will, let alone the complex Estate Planning that many older adults need.

If you are struggling to think of a great gift for that special somebody in your life, stop and think whether or not they could use some time and effort invested into their Estate and Will Planning. It is not exciting nor is it as bad an experience as many of us think. We at Smartwills have researched and can confirm most people feel relieved when they have completed the exercise. Many then realize that Will planning needs to be done every 3-5 years and once you have the template in place, changes are easy as you update to reflect the changes in your life.

You spend so much time in your life trying to protect your family and your assets with insurance plans, and savings plans and then you miss the one opportunity to plan for everyone’s future by avoiding a topic around Estate and Will planning. We have cited many cases in our past newsletters of celebrities that have neglected the exercise and many of them cannot say they cannot afford to do it or that they have nothing to leave to others.

If you need a place to start, we have included a link below which will identify the key information you will want to start to pull together.  It shortens the process but also gets you and your family talking about the future and your life plan.
